STD/AIDS in US 2024 Update
According to recent reports and data, the United States is experiencing a concerning surge in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. Here are some key findings:

Syphilis: The rate of infectious syphilis cases in the U.S. rose by 9% in 2022, with over 30,000 cases reported. This marks the highest number of syphilis cases since 1950.
Gonorrhea: While the overall rate of gonorrhea cases has remained relatively stable, there has been a significant increase in antibiotic-resistant strains. As of 2023, 9 countries reported elevated levels (5% to 40%) of resistance to ceftriaxone, the last line treatment for gonorrhea.
Chlamydia: The rate of chlamydia cases has remained relatively flat, with over 1.7 million cases reported in 2022.
Regional Variations: The South continues to be disproportionately affected by high STD rates, with 17 of the 25 cities with the worst infection rates located in this region. Texas, New York, and Florida have consistently ranked among the top states with the highest STD rates.
Notable Trends:
HIV/AIDS: The U.S. government’s Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative aims to reduce new HIV infections by 75% and increase access to care and treatment by 2025. While progress has been made, more work is needed to achieve these goals.
