Defense attorneys for Robert Crimo III, accused of killing seven and injuring dozens at a 2022 Independence Day parade in Highland Park, argue he was denied his right to legal representation during police interrogation.

They seek to exclude his videotaped confession from the trial set for February. Prosecutors counter that Crimo was informed of his Miranda rights and willingly cooperated.

The case has faced delays due to Crimo’s erratic behavior, including missed hearings and changing legal strategies.

The shooting caused panic at the parade and left an 8-year-old boy paralyzed among dozens injured, the Associated Press has reported.
