You might think that society needs people at higher positions to be able to survive, but you couldn’t be more wrong. What is of the utmost importance in a community are people that are doing to ordinary, day to day jobs that help maintain the semblance of peace in that environment. What good are wealth and territory if you don’t keep the people you govern healthy and able to do their jobs without a glitch?

There are some professions we like to call noble, like those of the doctors and soldiers that dedicate their lives to save ours, teachers that give us knowledge and judges and lawyers that keep the crime rates at a bare minimum. But we often forget to mention the technicians in our society. Without them we won’t be able to live in the comfort of the 21st century and that is a fact.

Once upon a time, humans didn’t live in entire communities. They were wandering the Earth as lone wolves, picking fruit from the ground and seeking shelter. The rise in their number and the constant need to protect themselves from danger forced them to find strength in numbers. They created the first settlements and found that their tight-knit groups function better when all of them help each other and keep their communities clean. People were given tasks that they had to finish in order to keep the peace in the tribe and this is how the first professions were created. There were people who worked on the fields to bring food on the table, others looked after the health of the habitants and some were the designated builders and repairmen of the tribe.

As human civilisation progressed and modernised, we reached a point where people realised that there are a lot of aspects of day to day life that are better off being shared by the whole community. Instead of bringing water in buckets every day from a nearby spring, a common water supply system could facilitate our access to water. Same thing applied to our sewage our electricity and nowadays even our heating.

In a time where we think of this things as staple and trivial, we often forget that they exist and need to be maintained. They can easily be gone in the blink of an eye because of a defect in the system and the important thing is to do everything in our power to keep them running and keep us living in a modern society.

The heroes of today are precisely those people that take care of our communal systems. Let’s face it, someone has to do the dirty and strenuous work of unclogging the sewage pipes, fixing broken electricity lines and making sure our water is not contaminated.

This somewhat disturbing story comes to you from Stockholm, Sweden. The footage was taken on June 4, 2018 and it shows two plumbers called Niklas and Kalle trying to switch a sewage relay. Unfortunately for them, the clog pops and releases all the dirty sewage right into one of their faces and half of the room. Yuck!
