On November 1, 2024, a deadly altercation occurred outside Michelobos Sports Bar in North Austin. Tyler Cochran, 30, was shot and killed during the incident. The conflict began as a verbal dispute between Cochran and 20-year-old Clayton Taitague, which escalated when Taitague drew a firearm and shot Cochran. A security guard witnessing the event shot Taitague after Cochran was injured.

Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene, and Taitague sustained life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized but is expected to face first-degree murder charges upon recovery. The security guard involved will not face charges, as their actions were deemed self-defense by authorities.
