Atlanta police chase and arrest a suspect who broke into several vehicles in a parking lot

On November 2nd, 2024, at approximately 12:47PM, officers responded to the area of Ted Turner Drive NW and John Portman Boulevard NW in reference to several vehicles being broken into. During their initial investigation, officers were able to access surveillance footage which showed the suspects and their vehicle (a 2016 Chevy Silverado) breaking into several vehicles before fleeing from the area. Based on the information that was gathered from the surveillance footage, a BOLO was disseminated to fellow officers to locate the suspects and their vehicle.

With the assistance of APD's Aviation Unit (aka Phoenix), officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, which was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed. After the suspects noticed that officers were behind their vehicle, they abruptly stopped in the roadway and fled from the vehicle on foot. The two suspects ran in different directions however, Phoenix was able to maintain a visual of the driver of the vehicle who fled into a nearby railyard on Norfolk Southern's property.

Though the suspect attempted to elude pursuing officers through the labyrinth like layout of the railyard, officers were persistent in their search and eventually were able to locate the suspect hiding behind a train.

Upon seeing the officers approach, the suspect gave up and was placed into custody without further incident. It was later discovered that the vehicle the suspects were in possession of was stolen in the City of Atlanta on 10/28/24.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was later identified as 18-year-old Vincent Steele. Mr. Steele was charged with Entering an Automobile with the Intent to Commit a Theft/Felony (X2), Theft by Taking (X3), and Criminal Trespass/Damage to Property (X2). Mr. Steele was transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.

Currently, the other suspect remains unidentified.
