The four-piece ao dai is a traditional outfit that carries the ancient beauty of Northern Vietnamese women at one time. The shirt has many special meanings, symbolizing the virtues and traditions of ancient women, who were rustic but very attractive, always diligent and hard-working.

The four-piece ao dai has a bold symbolic design, with two flaps in the front, two flaps in the back representing the four bodies of the parents, and the inner camisole representing the parents holding their child in their arms. Today, four-piece ao dai is still widely used in traditional performances and festivals to honor and promote the image of ancient Vietnamese women.
