Amid a national outcry over Trump administration policy resulting in the separation of migrant families at the U.S. Southern border, acting ICE Director Thomas Homan argued that the parents are at fault.

“As far as separation of families are concerned, you have to put the blame on the parents,” Homan said Monday on Tucker Carlson Tonight. “They are choosing to enter between the ports of entry, they know they will be separated, but they want to blame the government when we are forced to do that. So let’s put the blame where it lies. Not on the fine men and women of ICE. We’re enforcing the law.”

Earlier in the segment, Homan blasted politicians claiming migrant children who have been separated from their families are being used as “pawns.” The acting ICE chief went on to make the head-scratching assertion that it is the parents who are using their own children as pawns.

“These parents themselves are using these children as pawns to gain entry into the United States knowing that we can’t detain them,” Homan said.
