Birth Control: The Left's Latest Boogeyman

Posted • November 14, 2024: Remember when abortion was going to be the deciding issue in this election? We were told, time and again, that Donald Trump's appointment of SCOTUS Justices and their subsequent ruling in Dobbs was electoral suicide, and that voters would flock to Kamala Harris because they really, really, really cared about a woman's right to choose. Except they didn't. Back in 2022, the Dobbs decision was given as one of the reasons the midterm red wave didn't materialize. Except there's an inconvenient fact there: no one in Congress had anything to do with the Dobbs decision. The candidates in 2022 were just that unelectable, and the nation still sour on the Trump-era COVID policies they just didn't want to give the GOP control. That changed last week. Suburban white women voted for Trump 51-47, dealing a final blow to the notion the only thing we care about is abortion.

Kamala Harris actually underperformed on abortion, the one issue she was most vocal and consistent on. She was also radically out of touch and not only was she unable to name one abortion restriction she'd support, she openly said she'd force religious healthcare organizations and providers to perform abortions over their objections. Abortion is now a state issue, and the states are doing just fine. Florida voters killed Amendment 4, the radical abortion referendum opposed by Gov. Ron DeSantis. Meanwhile, Arizona voters passed an amendment guaranteeing abortion access in that state. Most voters oppose the Democratic Party's preference for on-demand abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Few nations allow abortion that late, and most voters support restrictions after a certain number of weeks. That being said, there can -- and should -- be a good faith argument on the issue.

A baby after 20 weeks gestation is no different than a baby at 19 weeks, 6 days gestation, so why is it okay to abort one but not the other? The same argument can be applied to the question of babies conceived in rape and incest (rare occurrences). The truth is the vast majority of abortions are done as birth control. -- “This is the absolute truth, I did 1200 abortions, first and second trimester. 1 was for rape, 2 were for incest, 9 or 10 were for genetic effects.., and all the rest of them were healthy moms and healthy kids.” - “People don’t want to believe that, but it’s the truth.” -- Wow 😓 And this is wrong. But -- once again -- the media has done nothing but lie about the issue. They let Kamala get away with saying Amber Nicole Thurman died because of Georgia's restrictions on abortion when the truth is Thurman died from sepsis related to a chemical abortion she obtained. Thurman's own family asked Kamala to stop using her for political gain (surprise: Kamala didn't).

NYT reporter Nicholas Kristof earned the most epic Community Note of all time for lying about a Nevada woman who was arrested for intentionally killing her baby (Kristof said she was arrested after a 'miscarriage', which was not true). Here's CBS News continuing to fan the flames of fear over losing 'reproductive rights': CBS News @CBSNews: “Emergency birth control sales and appointments for IUDs spiked after Election Day over fears of what a Trump presidency could mean for women's reproductive rights.” This proves two things, although CBS News isn't aware of this: First, it shows that women know how to obtain contraception to prevent a pregnancy. If they do that, they won't need an abortion. You can get Plan B over the counter, as well as daily birth control pills. Condoms are also readily acceptable. Second, that the issue of abortion is no longer the political football it once was, because now the states (and their voters) get to decide.

No one is taking away anyone's birth control. The media are lying to you, again. Remember how Mitt Romney was going to ban tampons? Of course, the Left thinks that rights and access are inextricably linked, and the fact there isn't a Planned Parenthood on every corner means women are being 'denied' their right to reproductive care. They're not. And the election showed voters aren't buying that lie anymore, either.
