Episode 128, Clip 2 - All the President's Men: E. Howard Hunt (Part III)

Everything changed for the covert operators in November 1960 when, in a political upset, JFK defeated Richard Nixon in the presidential election. The assumption had always been that the former chair of the 5412 Committee would become the President, green-lighting an uninterrupted run of covert operations as he previously had as Vice President in the 1950's, culminating in the National Security apparatus' long-desired war with Cuba and/or the Soviets. But that thinking was turned upside-down when Kennedy became President and Nixon was turned out of power.

This episode covers the events of 1961 and 1962, illustrating a young and inexperienced President who at first was an easy mark for this national security apparatus, growing a spine, standing up to their demands and indeed even waging a secret war with the hardliners in his own government...all in the name of peace. This would not be received well by E. Howard Hunt and his ilk.
