The Palestinian Resistance and Hope.

Ghassan Kanafani in a rare documentary "The Resistance, Why?" from the Palestine Archive (1971) This rare and long-lost documentary from 1971, directed by the late Lebanese filmmaker Christian Ghazi, was destroyed along with several of his other works by Lebanese right-wing militias during the civil war. It was rediscovered and restored between 2019 and 2021.

The film presents the perspectives of prominent thinkers such as the martyr Ghassan Kanafani, Sadiq Jalal al-Azm, Nabil Shaath, and others on the Palestinian revolution and its history dating back to the early 20th century, offering deep intellectual and social analyses of its origins and motives.

The documentary also includes a rare interview with the martyr Ghassan Kanafani, which might be the longest published interview with him. In it, he shares his views on the Palestinian resistance, describing it as a historical movement that began before the Nakba, aimed at liberating Jews from Zionism, Arabs from reactionary forces, and establishing a democratic, socialist Palestine. Kanafani also discusses how Palestinians, after the Nakba, were deprived of one of the most fundamental human rights — hope — which was restored by the resistance that began in the early 1960s.

Watch this rare work to gain insight into the views of great intellectuals on the cause of their people
