Israel has been weighing the possibility of a time-limited ceasefire at Israel's northern border with Lebanon where it is fighting Hezbollah, as per a report. The move is aimed at averting a UN Security Council (UNSC) decision against Israel, according to a report by N12 News.
The report noted that the details of the agreement are currently unknown. According to Israeli assessments, the UNSC may call to halt Israel's fighting in Gaza or impose restrictions on Tel Aviv, the report added.
Meanwhile, US officials told Israeli news outlet Ynet that they believe chances are increasing for a mediated agreement between Israel and Lebanon. Efforts are underway to negotiate a smaller-scale hostage deal with Hamas as well, Ynet reported citing unnamed US officials.
As per reports, the agreement is mediated by US President Joe Biden’s envoy Amos Hochstein with President-elect Donald Trump’s encouragement.
