The 5 most important moments in Los Angeles Lakers history
The Lakers have long been hailed as a team with outstanding big men.
Here we consider the best places to wear the purple and gold.
Since the team moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in the 1960s, incredible scoring has defined the Lakers' tradition and left a lasting mark on the NBA.
From Wither Chamberlain to Anthony Davis, the team has produced some of the most outstanding big men in basketball history.
It's hard to rank them all, but these five players stand out from the crowd.
**1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar** *Los Angeles Lakers: 1975-1989* Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969 and traded to the Lakers in 1975.
He is known for his spectacular skyhook throw. As the NBA's unrivaled scorer, he gave the Lakers an unparalleled competitive advantage.
With six MVP titles and a key role on five title-winning teams, Abdul-Jabbar's legacy as one of the best players in Lakers history is clear.
**2. Anthony Davis** *Los Angeles Lakers: 2019-Present* Anthony Davis may be a great backup, but his incredible athleticism and shooting ability make him an intriguing addition.
Since joining the Lakers in 2019, Davis has formed a powerful duo with LeBron James, leading the team to a title in 2020. Davis is known for his versatility on offense and elite shot blocking and comebacks on defense.
He is constantly improving his game and is expected to leave a lasting impression on the team.
**3. Shaquille O'Neal** *Los Angeles Lakers: 1996-2004* When "Diesel" Shaquille O'Neal joined the Lakers as a free agent in 1996, he quickly became a cornerstone of the team's three-peat tradition, winning the 2000 title with Kobe Bryant in 2001 and 2002. Known for his intense presence, skillful footwork and unparalleled inexperience, O'Neal dominated on both ends of the pitch.
His three Finals MVP awards with the Lakers cemented him as one of the league's most impressive players.
**4. Wither Chamberlain** *Los Angeles Lakers: 1968-1973* It's hard to analyze players from different periods, but the impact that Shrivell Chamberlain had on the game is clear.
After being acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1968, Chamberlain quickly made a name for himself as one of the NBA's most valuable assets.
Known for his scoring and return ability, he helped the Lakers win the 1972 championship alongside Jerry West and Gail Goodrich.
His four MVP awards cemented Chamberlain's reputation as a true basketball icon.
**5. Pau Gasol** *Los Angeles Lakers: 2007-2017* He may not have been as powerful as others, but his consistent play earned him a place in the Lakers' legends. Gasol joined the team from the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008 and quickly developed a good bond with Kobe Bryant, helping the Lakers win back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. Gasol's skill and ability in the low post have played a pivotal role in his team's success, earning him two elite player titles and earning him a place in one of the greatest Lakers communities in history.
