On October 11, 2024, at 12:05 p.m., Santa Clarita Station deputies responded to a domestic disturbance and shots fired call in the 28000 block of Sloan Canyon Road, Unincorporated Castaic. The call indicated a male and female were overheard arguing before a gunshot was heard. The male was later identified as 43-year-old Raul Martinez. Upon arriving on scene, a deputy observed Martinez and a female adult standing near a parked vehicle with the driver’s side front door opened. Martinez and the female appeared to be involved in a physical altercation. As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, Martinez produced a firearm, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Martinez sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Deputies rendered first aid until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. Martinez was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life- threatening injuries. The female, along with a male juvenile, who was seated in the vehicle at the time of the incident, were not injured. No deputies or other persons were injured during the incident. A loaded semi-automatic 9mm handgun and a loaded .22 caliber revolver were recovered from the scene. He currently stands charged with a half-dozen felony charges, as well as special allegations related to charges he used a gun in the commission of the alleged crimes. Martinez is being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown Los Angeles in lieu of $275,000 bail.
