Tens of thousands pour onto Valencia streets furious about flood devastation

Protesters threw rocks and fireworks amidst clashes with police, who responded with batons and tear gas.

People are demanding the resignation of the head of the region, Carlos Mazon, for his administration's apparently slow efforts to deal with the crisis which left over 200 people dead.

Protestors allege the authorities were late sending an SMS warning about the flood, and security forces were only sent to the disaster area several days later, leaving volunteers to perform as first responders.
