History & Lore Episode 9
Christmas Special

Though the Roman Catholic Church brought Christianity to Japan during the Sengoku period, the following Edo period saw the Tokugawa Shogunate ban and persecute the religion. In secret, the Japanese hidden Christians continued to practice their faith but, detached from the structure of the Church and unfamiliar with the European languages associated with it, their faith began to change over time with the stories of the Bible being altered and poorly remembered through the Tenchi. Today, as it is Christmas, I will be reading Chapter 5 of the Tenchi dealing with the nativity of Jesus Christ.
