Posted • November 8, 2024: The election night ratings are in, and not surprisingly Fox News did really well. Fox News beat every network with 7.9 million viewers on Wednesday during Harris’ concession speech, hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum with Brit Hume and Dana Perino. This set a record for post-election coverage. According to Nielsen data, ABC nabbed 2.4m viewers and CBS took 1.8m viewers. CNN averaged 2.2m viewers and MSNBC saw 2.3m viewers. Notably, Special Report with Bret Baier (6 PM/ET) averaged 5.1m viewers, besting CBS Evening News which saw 4.3m viewers. The Five commanded 7.2m viewers, making it the second highest rated show on TV on Wednesday behind Fox News Democracy 24. However, MSNBC did, for the first time, have more election night viewers than CNN: Fox News crushes rivals in ratings race on election night — CNN falls behind MSNBC https://nypost.com/2024/11/07/media/fox-news-crushes-rivals-in-ratings-race-on-election-night-cnn-falls-behind-msnbc/

Here's the MSNBC statement: Jesse Rodriguez @JesseRodriguez: “Thank you to our loyal MSNBC viewers! MSNBC TOPS CNN ON A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NETWORK HISTORY” https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GbvOO6eWAAcN-xv?format=png&name=900x900 -- About six million people were watching MSNBC on election night: Fox News cruised to an easy victory in the ratings battle for election night coverage, marking the second-straight time the network beat rivals CNN and MSNBC in viewership for presidential results. Fox News reeled in 10.3 million viewers from 8 to 11 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, according to Nielsen data. The ratings were more than double that of CNN, which finished behind MSNBC for the first time on a presidential election night. MSNBC’s coverage, anchored by Rachel Maddow, averaged 6 million viewers, besting CNN’s 5.1 million viewers.

Of course MSNBC had bigger than usual ratings that night. But they probably don't understand why… Most of us tuned in just to watch everyone on the network cry. Y'all had way better meltdowns than CNN. Bingo! I had MSNBC on (as well as a couple other nets) for most of the night. Based on the 2016 meltdowns, I knew what was coming if Trump won and I didn't want to miss stuff like this: Joy Reid calls Florida an "extreme right-wing fascist state." Joy Reid is disgusted that ~1/2 of the country will have voted for Donald Trump: "What does it tell you? We need to really take a step back and think about: What does that say about us?" -- Actually, Joy, it was MORE than half of the country (cue maniacle laughter). I thought this was a fantastic rundown of the night on MSNBC that six million people didn't want to miss:

After re-watching, MSNBC Election Night coverage, in a nutshell (all times EST):

Until 8p: “Kamala blowout”

8p - 9p: “No surprises so far”

9p - 10p: “Was always going to be close”

10p - 11p: “Don’t worry, blue wall”

11p - 1a: “Uh oh”

1a onward: “Fuck”

From the sound of the continuing insanity on MSNBC, we're never going to reach an "acceptance" stage. MSNBC (better known as MSLSD) closing the Election Show having a total meltdown. I love it. Yes, MSNBC, many people were watching. How could we not love something like that! Well done.
