Our chronological Scripture reading schedule brings us to chapter 1 of Paul’s Epistle to the Romans. As in earlier epistles, Paul identified himself in his salutation with a familiar, pastoral tone. He then assured the believers, “I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also…to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:15-16). The final verses of Romans 1 described the sinful depravity of humanity and warned of God’s judgment.
