WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes reports on Indiana Fever's major failings and Caitlin Clark's

Three-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes has become known as a vocal commentator for Caitlin Clark, and despite some divisive reactions from Clark's allies, the 53-year-old has remained open about her views.

Perhaps one of Swoopes' most controversial comments last season was when she claimed some Indiana Fever players didn't want to be removed from the team because of the attention surrounding Clark.

The statement was quickly rejected by Fever players, but was immediately questioned. Swoopes furthered her analysis with a recurring appearance on former NBA top pick Gilbert Fields' *No Chill* webcast.

This time, she brought up a crucial mistake the Fever made during the 2024 season, when Clark was on a mission to become the rookie champion.

"I think the Fever screwed up because of unlimited free kick specialist Kelsey Mitchell," Swoopes said, according to Women's Fastbreak.

" Mitchell's contract situation is a key consideration as she becomes a free agent this offseason.

Swoopes believes the Fever failed to properly recognize the value of Mitchell's performance after the team put together its most memorable end-of-season performance in nearly a decade.

However, it is unclear what Swoopes expected from the Fever, as the organization has been proactive in stating that re-signing the double-cross top pick was important.

At this time, Mitchell's future with the Fever remains unclear. The 5-foot-7 goalie is currently playing for the Shanxi Fire of the China Women's B-ball Association (WCBA) during the offseason.

She plans to return to the United States before the new WNBA season, but it remains unclear whether she will remain in Indiana or explore other options.
