Postoperative fever refers to an elevated body temperature (≥ 38.5 °C or 101 F) occurring after a recent surgical procedure.
Diagnosing the cause of postoperative fever can be difficult sometimes; because the fever in this case may be benign, self-limited, or unrelated to the surgical procedure.
On the other hand, it can also be a sign of a surgical complication, such as infection.
