The Shift: Why Many Black Americans Are Rethinking Their Votes

Historically, Black Americans have generally leaned conservative. They were Republicans until the 1930s, when FDR promised support in exchange for votes. However, he left Black Americans and Hispanics, particularly service workers, out of the New Deal. Decades later, many Black Americans are realizing they’ve seen little progress over the last 80 to 100 years and are questioning why they should continue to vote for a party that hasn’t delivered on its promises.
