Today, on my daily sobriety journey, I’m reacting to Aurora’s powerful tribute to Mari Boine, titled Golle Máze. This tribute has a strong cultural significance, celebrating the Sami, the native people of Scandinavia. Reflecting on my own experiences, it’s surprising how, in Swedish schools, we learned much more about the Native Americans of the USA than the Sami, even though they are our own indigenous people. The Sami culture is rich and deserves far more visibility and respect within Scandinavian society.

Aurora’s tribute here is a stunningly beautiful and moving homage, highlighting the resilience and beauty of Sami culture. We should cherish and remember the Sami heritage, just as we acknowledge and address the effects of racism on other communities.
