Writing under the pseudonym, Al C. Clark, Donald Goines became a hugely influential author for Black America. Overcoming a heroin addiction, a dishonorable discharge and a stint in penitentiary, Goines spoke honestly of the hardships living in the ghetto.
Never far removed from the darker side of the of subjects on which he wrote, Goines' life ended tragically. Murdered with his wife, Goines finished four novels with the last published posthumously.
