Word 1
HOW IT ALL STARTED - THE BEGINNING . || Gen 19:17-26
Gen 19:17-20 The angels took Lot and his wife and daughters by the hand and dragged them with them. Wife and daughters were also given the opportunity to escape judgment because the LORD wanted to save Lot. This shows the enormous grace of God. This grace was also abundant when Lot begged not to have to go to the mountains. That was so close to heaven. Only people like Abraham lived there. A man like Lot didn’t feel at home there. He would like to live in a city. It only had to be a small city – “Zoar” means ‘small’ or ‘insignificant’ – as long as it looked like a city. And again that enormous grace was shown. His request was granted: he could go to the city of his wish - God's permissive will demonstrated.

Word 2
HOW IT ALL STARTED - THE BEGINNING . || Gen 19:17-26
Gen 19:21-23 His request was granted him, the prayer of faith availed, and to convince him, from his own experience, that it would have been best and safest at once to follow implicitly the divine directions. The ruin of Sodom was suspended till he was secure. What care God does take of His people (Rev_7:3)! What a proof of the love which God bore to a good though weak man!

Word 3
HOW IT ALL STARTED - THE BEGINNING . || Gen 19:17-26
Gen 19:24-26 Throughout the account, special attention was given to time. The rain of brimstone and fire may be explained in a couple of ways. It is possible that God used a volcanic eruption or some similar kind of natural disaster. Then, the miracle would be in the Lord’s timing and in the narrow escape of Lot and his family. See Ex. 14 for a similar possibility. It is also possible that the destruction of these cities was an act of judgment outside the normal range of natural occurrences. The command was clear, not to look back or linger (v. Gen_19:17). Lot’s wife disobeyed and looked back. By implication, she was reluctant to leave. Her destruction was sudden. Nothing was left of her but a mineral heap. Jesus referred to her in His teaching on the sudden destruction that will come in the last days. “Remember Lot’s wife,” Jesus warned (Luk_17:32).
