Adolf | A Purrfect 17.5 Years: Remembering a Special Cat

He was nicknamed the "happy grandpa."
He was a gourmet connoisseur.
He could break into packages of cat and human snacks,
or even large bags of dry food.
When dinner was on the table,
he'd jump up and demand a taste of pork chop or cake.
When we opened a snack for his partner cat,
he insisted on a share.
He had a strong will.
He'd bite his partner cat's neck
and jump to the highest point in the house,
asserting his dominance.
If we missed his breakfast,
he'd meow incessantly
and turn on the fan to wake us up.
If he didn't like the canned food for the day,
he'd jump on the kitchen table.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014.
We thought he wouldn't make it,
but he defied the odds.
Despite other illnesses,
he always fought back.
At 15, he flew to Canada.
He fell in love with Vancouver summers,
escaping through the front door
and meowing until we let him out.
He loved wandering the backyard
and sunbathing.
When fall arrived,
he had to stay in the hospital.
The vet suggested euthanasia,
but he protested loudly,
pleading to go home.
He did well at home
and posed for photos with the fall leaves.
He didn't like winter,
so he chose to pass away before November.
Now, he's free from illness in heaven.
We're also free from medical bills
and cleaning up his messes.
As we laid Adolf to rest,
we wished him to be a guardian angel
to his partner cat.
Adolf, your face and voice will
always be in our memory.
