a powerful windstorm recently hit Vancouver Island, including the Gulf Islands and Victoria. This storm brought intense winds, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h in some areas, resulting in significant damage and widespread power outages. In Greater Victoria, the strong west winds led to tree branches snapping, which in turn damaged power lines, causing outages across the region. Environment Canada had issued a warning advising residents to prepare for the intense gusts and potential disruptions.

BC Hydro has been working diligently to restore electricity, and as of the latest reports, the majority of affected customers have had power restored. However, some areas with extensive damage may experience longer outages while crews continue to work on repairs.

If you're planning to visit or are in the affected areas, it’s advisable to stay updated on power restoration progress and any additional weather warnings from Environment Canada or BC Hydro
