Apple Pan Dowdy is Better than Apple Pie!
A cross between an Apple Cobbler and an Apple Pie, the Apple Pan Dowdy has a crispy crust glazed in Apple Juice!
Make in a 9-inch Deep Dish Pie Pan or 10-inch Cast Iron Skillet or 2.5 quart Casserole Dish
One deep dish Pie Crust
6 Cups peeled and sliced Apples, about 4 pounds medium to large apples
2 TBSP Orange Juice or Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar
1/3 Cup Firmly packed Light Brown Sugar
2 Tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/8 - 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg, optional
3 TBSP Flour
2 TBSP Butter
2 TBSP Milk
1 Tsp Cinnamon Sugar
Bake the pandowdy at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and make the Dowdy crust.
Return to oven and bake an additional 20 to 30 minutes until crust has a crispy Apple juice glaze.
Let cool for 2 hours.
