The Armor of God and the Heart of a Child
Welcome to our podcast. Today, we'll delve into the spiritual armor of a Christian, the importance of a childlike heart, and the transformative power of Christ's sacrifice.
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, provides a powerful metaphor for spiritual warfare. He urges us to equip ourselves with the armor of God. This armor is not physical but spiritual, designed to protect us from the attacks of the devil.
Scripture reading: Ephesians 6:14-17
"So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate, and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace. In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all [the] flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
This passage paints a vivid picture of a soldier fully prepared for battle. Each piece of armor represents a specific spiritual virtue:
• Truth: The belt of truth girds our loins, symbolizing integrity and honesty.
• Righteousness: The breastplate of righteousness protects our hearts and minds.
• Readiness: The shoes of peace equip us to spread the Good News.
• Faith: The shield of faith deflects the fiery darts of the enemy.
• Salvation: The helmet of salvation guards our minds from doubt and despair.
• The Word of God: The sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, is our ultimate weapon.
The Childlike Heart
While we must be strong and vigilant in our spiritual warfare, we must also cultivate a childlike heart. As C.S. Lewis so eloquently puts it:
Quote from C.S. Lewis
"As St. Paul points out, Christ never meant that we were to remain children in intelligence: on the contrary. He told us to be not only ‘as harmless as doves’, but also ‘as wise as serpents’. He wants a child’s heart, but a grown-up’s head. He wants us to be simple, single-minded, affectionate, and teachable, as good children are; but He also wants every bit of intelligence we have to be alert at its job, and in first-class fighting trim."
A childlike heart is characterized by simplicity, trust, and a willingness to learn. It is a heart that is open to God's grace and mercy.
The Power of Christ's Sacrifice
The foundation of our faith is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. St. Charles Borromeo reminds us of the profound impact of this sacrifice:
Quote from St. Charles Borromeo
"Behold Jesus Christ crucified, Who is the only foundation of our hope; He is our Mediator and Advocate; the victim and sacrifice for our sins. He is goodness and patience itself; His mercy is moved by the tears of sinners, and He never refuses pardon and grace to those who ask it with a truly contrite and humbled heart."
Christ's sacrifice is the ultimate act of love and mercy. It is through His sacrifice that we are forgiven, redeemed, and transformed.

Conclusion
As we journey through life, let us strive to be both strong and humble, both wise and childlike. May we always be clothed in the armor of God and rooted in the love of Christ.
Conclusion Prayer
Eternal Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. We ask for the grace to live our lives according to your will. Strengthen us with the armor of God, and fill our hearts with childlike faith. May we always turn to you in times of need, trusting in your infinite mercy and love. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
