A Journey of Faith: Promised One ✨
The Child of Promise:
Instead of returning to Nazareth, Joseph and Mary stay in Bethlehem. When Jesus is eight days old, they follow tradition, circumcising him and naming him Jesus, as directed by the angel Gabriel.
Forty days later, they bring Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to offer a purification sacrifice. Mary brings two birds, revealing their humble means, as a more costly ram was traditionally offered.
In the temple, an elderly man, Simeon, is guided by the Spirit to meet them. Holding Jesus, he praises God: “My eyes have seen your salvation, a light for all nations.” Simeon blesses the family, telling Mary that her child will bring both joy and sorrow.
An 84-year-old prophetess, Anna, also sees Jesus and begins praising God, speaking to everyone around about this Promised One.
Joseph and Mary leave the temple filled with awe, their hearts reassured that Jesus truly is the child promised by God.
