Valerie Jarrett: If You Want to ‘Turn the Page’ and ‘Move Forward,’ VP Harris Is the ‘Person for You’

CAPEHART: “Listen, you of all people know that the Obama’s are very reticent about getting out there and speaking on a whole host of issues. When they come out and speak on an issue particularly during a campaign such as this it is to me freighted with meaning and importance. Why do you think President Obama has been out there on the campaign trail as much as he has been? Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be out there tonight in the last hours of this 2024 presidential campaign.”
JARRET: “Good evening. It’s always a pleasure to be with you. I’m here in my individual capacity not in the capacity as a civic nations since it’s a not-for-profit and I’m here speaking on behalf of Vice President Harris and why I think she should be the next president. Obama was president for eight years, Michelle Obama was the First Lady for the same period of time. They have an appreciation for what it takes to be president of the United States and they think that absolutely vice president Harris is the right person for this job. It’s important to get out. This is an election with very high stakes. You heard the contrast between the two candidates. I think both of the Obamas want to take their message directly to the American people. We saw them this summer at the Democratic Convention, the electricity around their speeches was unprecedented. Bringing that incredible enthusiasm to the campaign trail when we only have three days left. Millions of Americans have voted, but I’m looking at you to those of you who haven’t across the political spectrum, I will say to you unequivocally that our country needs to move forward, not backward. The rhetoric we have heard in the last few days is a consistent reminder of what we have seen since President Trump first hit the stage when he came down that escalator. If you want to turn the page and move forward, if you’re a woman or love a woman and think she’s perfectly capable of taking care of herself, particularly when it comes to her body then Vice President Harris is the person for you.”
