Smikle Jr.: I’m Glad Cardi B Is Becoming ‘So Much More Politically Active’

CAPEHART: “I would love to get your reaction but I also wonder how effective is it to have superstars like Cardi B, Michelle Obama, j-lo, Beyonce, Kelly come out and express support?”
SMIKLE JR.: “A little word about Cardi B, she visited the library and in going through the space looking at the language of his four freedoms speech and looking at the details of the New Deal she’s like why can’t we have this or that? She gets the policy. To see her up there I’m glad she’s becoming so much more politically active but she really gets the details. Very proud of that. I will just say this is a movement. Molly and I were talking about before, back in the summer when we were talking about why Kamala, why we needed to do this, why it is that we shouldn’t be pushing her to the side to privilege anybody else in the process we would know nothing about going forward, she had to be the one because presidential campaigns get really interesting when you create a social and political movement around the candidate. That’s what she’s got. That’s why you see all of the celebrities. Operationally, they may count for 1 or 2% here and there on the street but what it means to the viewer is let me pick my head up and pay attention because this person is now supporting.”
