Is Kid Austin Ready For Tank Davis & Shakur Stevenson?

Kid Austin won a 12-unanimous victory against Rene Giron Saturday night in Las Vegas. All three judges scored the bout 116-111, 118-109, and 118-109. This was Floyd Schofield's first 12-rounder in a bout he was expected to win by knockout.

Kid Austin was a -1800 favorite in this fight. Austin landed shots at will against Giron. Giron was slow, predictable, and persistent. He was tough and gritty. Giron hurt Kid Austin in the 3rd round with a right hook to the head.

That round was a war, it appeared that Austin gathered himself and started loading up on power shots, going for the knockout. The way the fight was going, I was sure Giron would get knocked out in 6.

Boy was I wrong. Kid Austin showed his athleticism with dashing in and out, moving side to side inside the ring. Schofield landed 259 punches to Giron's 72 punches.

The problem came with Mama Hofield started yelling at his son, telling him to box more and move around the ring. The style of fighting Kid Austin needed to use to stop Giron is the high guard.

If Kid Austin had implored what Tank Davis does when he knocks guys out, he would have stopped Giron. It seems Kid was trying too hard to follow his dad's instructions, instead of following his instincts.

In boxing, sometimes less is more. Had Schofield fought out of the high guard and set traps, while countering Giron in the high guard he would have gotten the knockout.

Legendary trainer Ronnie Shields didn't have much to say because Mama Hofield doing all the talking while belting out the wrong instructions. Things appeared to take a turn for the worst when Kid got dropped by a right hook in the 11th.

In the 3rd, Kid got caught clean on the side of his head when he decided to turn his back on Giron and walk off. Giron was gonna hit Kid again but the referee stopped the action.

Based on what I saw last night, Kid Austin isn't ready for Tank Davis, or Shakur Stevenson. Why? Because, he's too green, and he has the wrong trainer in his corner.

Mama Hofield needs to turn over lead trainer duties to either Ronnie Shields, or someone who knows WTF they're doing. Mama Hofield has been on different Podcasts calling out Tank Davis, Keyshawn, Abdullah Mason, and Shakur Stevenson.
