The Kinderdijk windmills can be found in the picturesque marshes around Dordrecht. Nineteen exquisite windmills, erected around 1740 as part of a wider flood-prevention system, stand here. They now serve as a symbol of Dutch water management and were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997.

The Kinderdijk windmills were erected to keep the Alblasserwaard's low-lying farmland dry. They construct a classic Dutch landscape by facing each other. You may also see various streams, dikes, mills, and sluices, as well as learn how the Dutch have used water for over 1000 years.
