Posted • November 2, 2024: Jacksonville police fatally shoot a four-time convicted felon rapper who was fleeing with a gun. Officers observed known and former gang members flashing guns outside a Buy Rite store. "Rather than comply with his directive, [30-year-old Dejuane Aki Hayden] fled continued running and pulled a firearm from his waistband." Hayden was carrying a stolen gun and was a former gang member of the now inactive 3200 Block group. "Seeing the gun in Hayden's right hand, Officer Griffitts yelled, 'Gun, gun, gun,' and fired his JSO-issued firearm striking Hayden. Hayden fell to the ground dropping the gun. Officer Griffiitts yelled to Hayden to not move. Hayden did not follow this command and instead jumped to his feet and continued to run away from Officer Griffitts. Hayden jumped over a wall and ran down an alleyway." Hayden had also been a target in Operation Rap Up in 2018, which focused on felons displaying firearms in music videos.
