Land of the Free
I wanted to write a song to all my patriots out there who bleed red, white, and blue. This song's for you. It is inspired by the history of the Star Spangled Banner and everyone who stands for our great national anthem.
LAND OF THE FREE
by Joe Herbert
We honor those who fought for the American dream
Freedom isn't free, as we know too well
Dreams get scattered like leaves in the breeze
With every wrinkle, there's a story to tell
We look for peace when someone ceases to breath
Like the twinkle of a star that has fell
Dangerous freedom beats peaceful slavery
So let's keep ringing that liberty bell
Faded and worn, tattered and torn
Those lost, we mourn, as freedom is born
Under starlit skies, with unwavering minds
Our courage will rise, like the flag that defies
Through battles and cries, the trials we face
Our spirit survives in this sacred place
With colors held high, and voices so true
We honor the past in red, white, and blue
Bombarded all night, into the dawn's early light
We stood steadfast, and never gave up the fight
It was September 14, in the year 1814
In Baltimore, Maryland, in the early morning
When an amateur poet named Francis Scott Key
Wrote about the home of the brave and the land of the free
We hold onto the all the memories we can snag
For their like footprints in the shifting sands
We hope that those who follow us pick up the flag
Time has a way of slippin' through our hands
Stop what you're doin', let's all of us stand
It's our national anthem, sing along with me
Take off your hat, cover your heart with your hand
Let's honor those heroes that made us all free
