Dashcam video from the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows the arrest of a suspect whom law enforcement said led them on an Oct. 18 chase from Cleveland to Sandusky County.
According to an OSHP report, troopers saw a Ford Flex traveling 90 mph in a 60 mph zone on the Ohio Turnpike in Cleveland shortly after 1 p.m. The Ford did not have a visible license plate, OSHP said.
Troopers initiated a pursuit, but the suspect vehicle did not stop, authorities said.
The pursuit continued through several cities, where local police departments assisted in the chase. The suspect vehicle continued fleeing law enforcement, traveling at a speed over the posted limit, sometimes over 100 mph, troopers said.
The chase continued across Ohio. Troopers ahead of the pursuit set up stop sticks, which the suspect driver struck. The chase was discontinued when troopers lost sight of the suspect vehicle.
The chase was reinitiated on the Turnpike near Fremont and Port Clinton in Sandusky County. Troopers who were positioned ahead chased the suspect vehicle, which began to reduce its speed in a construction zone. The driver drove between barrels and entered an area closed off to traffic.
The suspect driver struck a guardrail on the Turnpike in Sandusky County, troopers said, then exited the Ford and fled on foot.
A trooper chased the driver on foot. In dashcam video, the trooper can be heard shouting "You're going to get tased!" multiple times, then ultimately is seen tasing the suspect, who falls to the ground.
The driver, who allegedly had ammunition on his person, complied with trooper commands and was ultimately taken into custody. According to authorities, the suspect vehicle was stolen.
The driver was identified as Daveon Jackson of Detroit, Michigan, OSHP said in the report. Jackson was charged with fleeing and eluding, and receiving stolen property, both of which are classified as third-degree felonies.
The suspect and the passenger, who were not charged in the incident, were transported to a hospital. Both were eventually cleared from the hospital. No OSHP troopers were injured in the incident.
