"Destroying farmland to put in Chinese-made solar panels isn't a very sensible thing."

Geologist Ian Plimer on the UK government's push towards solar energy:

"England is a place where the sun doesn't shine very much... What are you going to do at night? What are you going to do on a cloudy day?"

"It's a very small, wet, cloudy island sitting out in the water. It doesn't get much sun. You can't be more stupid than to try to make England a solar country."
