North Korea test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday, setting a record 86-minute flight time and demonstrating a range capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

This was North Korea’s first ICBM launch since December and may aim to draw U.S. attention ahead of the November 5 election.

The missile, launched near Pyongyang, traveled 620 miles before landing in the sea off Japan, though its high-angle trajectory suggests it could have reached further.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called the test a show of “will to respond to our enemies,” USA Today has reported.
