Drunk driver in handcuffs tries to escape from Wheat Ridge Police officers

In mid-October, our partners at Jeffcom 911 aired a REDDI report (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately), stating a driver was going north on Wadsworth Blvd. from Colfax Ave. and was “swerving all over” the road.

As our team was leaving the police department, we found the suspect vehicle parked just outside our department with a blown-out tire. A witness contacted our officers and told us the suspect “wiped out” a median just south of City Hall.

The suspect had trouble following our Sergeant’s commands and trouble with his balance when he was contacted. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. As we were escorting him to a squad car, he tried to take off.

We issued him a summons for DUI and obstructing a peace officer.
