This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii. This was recorded directly from my Wii (not the Wii U). I'm collecting all 242 stars in the game.

Following up on my Super Mario Galaxy playthrough, here's Super Mario Galaxy 2.

When Nintendo first announced Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 2009, I was quite shocked. Previously, Nintendo had only released one 3D Mario game per system. So a 3D Mario sequel was as surprising as Nintendo releasing Majora's Mask only two years after Ocarina of Time. I guess Nintendo had a ton of leftover ideas from the original Galaxy game.

I was a huge fan of the original Super Mario Galaxy, so I was definitely excited about the sequel. I picked up my copy of the game on its launch date in 2010 and proceeded to complete a full 242-star run within a couple of months. The Grand Master Galaxy in particular was incredibly challenging, but I really enjoyed it.

It's hard for me to say whether I like this game more or less than the original Galaxy. The original Super Mario Galaxy definitely had a bigger impact on me because of its innovative concept, plus it had more consistently good music. But Super Mario Galaxy 2 had some really wild ideas that surpassed the prior game.

In any event, I haven't played this game in more than six years, so I'll really be enjoying this. I hope you enjoy the playthrough as well. Like always, I'll be keeping track of each star I collect.

Stars collected in this video:

Sky Station Galaxy:

Star 1 - Peewee Piranha's Temper Tantrum - 5:00
Star 2 - Storming the Sky Fleet - 16:44

Yoshi Star Galaxy:

Star 1 - Saddle Up with Yoshi - 23:04
Star 2 - Spiny Control - 31:22

Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the Wii's component cables at 60 frames per second. I'm using a Wii Remote and nunchuck.
