Two Powers in Heaven: Christology in Early Judaism

In this video, Clark Moghadam discusses the idea that some Jewish people of the Second Temple Period held to the idea that there were "two powers" in heaven. In other words, these Jews believed that the Old Testament taught that there were two distinct entities who could properly be identified as divine - as Yahweh. However, these same people did not believe that a belief in these "two powers" was antithetical or contradictory with the bedrock Jewish belief in monotheism. This view can be found among a number of sources from Second Temple Judaism, and it sets the stage for some Jews who converted to Christianity adopting the Christian doctrine of God as a Trinity. However, this view seems to have been later suppressed by Jewish Rabbis who realized how similar it was to Christian doctrines of God and thus opposed its teaching.
