When a Dunde Newspaper reported that the arrival of Jim McLean at Tannadice in December 1971 might herald the start of a bright new era for Dundee United, nobody could have imagined how prophetic these words would become. Britain's longest-serving manager can look back almost two decades and reflect on the lifting of the League Cup in successive years and the clinching of Scotland's top prize - The League Championship. Today, Europe respects Dundee United having beaten the best on the continent to reach the Uefa Cup final and a European Cup semi-final. This is the story - captured for the first time on video - of the Jim McLean years.

Few could argue that Britain's longest-serving manager has worked the greatest miracle in Scottish football turning a little-known provincial side into a giant killer, feared and respected across Europe. Barcelona, Borrusia Moenchengladbach, PSV Eindhoven, Werder Bremen, and Monaco have all tumbled from the European stage, defeated by United. And at home, victory in the league cup twice and the Scottish Championship was accompanied by the combined talents of McAlpine, Narey, Hegarty, Bannon, Sturrock, and friends. The manager joins Paul Sturrock in telling the story so far of Dundee United. The Jim McLean years.
