IGN's Woke Pander for Kamala Harris's Fortnite Map Backfires Hard!

Kamala Harris’s campaign has taken an unexpected detour into Fortnite with “Freedom Town,” a custom map designed to draw in young voters. But honestly, what does this boring map even have to do with her campaign? It feels more like a hollow, check-the-box attempt to look “hip” rather than a serious effort to engage voters. Filled with clichéd slogans and patriotic set pieces—like an oversized Statue of Liberty—this map reeks of pandering. While Harris’s team likely hoped this digital spectacle would connect with Fortnite’s massive player base, the reality is that most of these gamers are probably not interested in politics, let alone inclined to vote for her.

They’ve also thrown in popular influencers like Khairi "Kdot" Harris and Morgan "MODELMORG" Pope to promote it, as if a few endorsements will magically get Fortnite fans to take her campaign seriously. It even has a hyped-up trailer set to a Megan Thee Stallion track, trying to sell Freedom Town as something exciting. But, aside from a bit of wandering around, the map offers little substance. Meanwhile, Harris’s campaign continues to feel like it’s just throwing random ideas at the wall, hoping something will stick. If anything, it shows just how out of touch the campaign is with what young voters actually want to see from political figures.
