Christopher Columbus was Jewish and from this area of Spain.

It has taken 500 years to decipher the cradle of Christopher Columbus. And we finally know where the man who discovered America comes from. Columbus DNA, its true origin it is the RTVE documentary that has rewritten history. The feature film shows 22 years of research led by the coroner and professor at the University of Granada, José Antonio Lorente. After examining hundreds of bones and documents, it can be stated that Christopher Columbus was Jewish.

¿How has it been known that Christopher Columbus was Jewish?
The first part of the study was intended to find the mortal remains of Columbus. ¿They were in Seville or in the Dominican Republic? Science has confirmed that the tomb of the Seville cathedral does indeed contain the admiral's remains. The analysis of the bones of his son Hernando Colón, well preserved in the same temple, has been decisive throughout the study. First because the father-son relationship could be verified and a controversy that had lasted for 150 years between Spain and the Caribbean country was resolved.

Second, because Hernando's DNA has solved the mystery: "Both on the chromosome, 'Y' and in Hernando's mitochondrial, there are traits compatible with Jewish origin."

If Christopher Columbus is buried in Seville, what happens to the tomb of the Dominican Republic?

The documentary tells in the key of true crime the genetic study step by step. Of the 25 possible provenances of Christopher Columbus, Lorente and his team selected the eight most plausible theses. One by one, the hypotheses are presented with the documentary and historical reasons that support them, in such a way that the viewer begins to accept each approach as good, until, DNA dismantles almost all of them.

The line of research led by Catalan Fracesc Albardaner, former president of the Center d'Estudis Colombins of Barcelona, is the winner in this work that has presented research as a competition between the different existing theories. Lorente flatly states that Columbus was Jewish and it places it in a specific geographical area: "Geographical location: Western Mediterranean. This whole part."

DNA would show that Columbus was not Genoese
Taking into account that genes limit the origin to the western Mediterranean, Regis Francisco, director of the documentary, tells the story to justify the hypothesis: "The origin of Sephardic Jews is Sepharad. AND Sefarad is the name in Hebrew that designates the Iberian Peninsula in what is now Spain. Around 200,000 Jews lived in Columbus' time. In the Italian peninsula, it is estimated that only between ten and fifteen thousand lived. Where there was a much larger Jewish population was in Sicily, where around 40,000 lived. But let's remember that Sicily, in the time of Columbus, belonged to the Crown of Aragon."

The Catalan researcher is convinced that the DNA results already completely rule out the story that Columbus was Italian, from Genoa: "All the very important historians of Italy, all of them, have written black on white that it is impossible that this one, our Colombo, was Jewish. In other words, there is a total incompatibility. The entire theory of the Genoese Columbus enters into crisis if it is accepted that Columbus is Jewish." ¿And why? As Albardaner explains Genoa had expelled the Jews in the 12th century, "there were no people, no community, no synagogue, no nothing at all. The Jews could only go to stay in Genoa for three days to do business and then they had to leave."

Furthermore, as even defenders of other Spanish theories point out, all the letters that remain from Columbus, and there are many, are written in Spanish and not a single Italian influence or word can ever be seen. What's more, it was written with the Bank of Genoa in Spanish.
