If we remain in Messiah He will remain in us.

We cannot produce supernatural fruit in the power of our flesh. Messiah promised us that if we remain in Him, then He would remain in us. We need to understand what this means in context.

Yeshua declared this to His disciples, probably as they stood in the upper room as they were getting ready to leave. Yeshua used a metaphor of the vine because there were grape orchards everywhere in every sector of Israel.

Also, there was a large golden vine set as a prominent decoration on the front of Jerusalem’s Temple to reveal that Israel was Yahweh’s true vine. The true vine was a recognized symbol of Yahweh’s Messiah.

By contrast, Yeshua is the true Grapevine. We must be rooted in Him if we will bear fruit for Yahweh. In His community of believers we are identified in Yeshua the Messiah, not in Israel nor in His assemblies.

Yeshua’s self-description of Himself as the true Grapevine, Yahweh the Father as the Gardener, and fruit bearing believers as His branches, have specific contexts that add understanding to their true functions.
