The popular vote doesn't actually count. The Electors of the Electoral College cast the only votes that matter. The rest of us are, unknowingly, participating in a straw poll.

That would be harmless enough, but additionally, the price for voting in this toothless popularity poll is identifying yourself as a franchisee, obligated to pay the debts racked up by the parent corporation and to obey the policies of these foreign corporations as if they were law.
