Tithe Cops: Can the Conference Control Your Conscience?

Does the conference act as a tithe enforcer? Can it dictate where members feel God is leading them to send their tithe? In 1985, the EXCOM (executive committee of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists) mandated that tithes be returned to the conference. However, neither the Statement of Fundamental Beliefs nor the Baptismal Statement designates the conference as the exclusive recipient of tithe. The Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy support the freedom for those spreading the Gospel to benefit from it directly, without coercion or 'tithe cops.'
