Court Rejects Dolton Mayor’s Attempt to Keep Village Meetings at City Hall
The political tug-of-war in Dolton persists as Mayor Tiffany Henyard's efforts to centralize village board meetings at Village Hall were thwarted by a court ruling. Henyard filed a lawsuit against several trustees, arguing that board meetings should take place at Village Hall. However, trustees pointed to a binding opinion from the Attorney General's Public Access Bureau, which recommended meetings be held in larger, more accessible venues. Residents had complained about the restricted space and barricades around Village Hall. A Cook County judge sided with the trustees, affirming that meetings must occur elsewhere. The court also dismissed Henyard's attempt to invalidate actions taken during an October 7 meeting. Although the judge expressed concern over Mayor Pro-Tem Jason House's actions, Henyard remains the elected official responsible for presiding over meetings.
