The Common Raven is one of the cleverest birds you'll find in Britain. These massive black birds are actually the largest members of the crow family, with wings that can stretch nearly 1.5 metres across! You might spot them soaring over mountains, forests, or coastal cliffs, where they show off their remarkable flying skills.
These brilliant birds are proper clever – they've been known to use tools, solve complex problems, and even play games. They'll eat almost anything they can find, from small animals and birds' eggs to berries and rubbish from landfills. Ravens mate for life, and pairs work together to build large nests high up in trees or on cliff faces.
What's really fascinating is their voice – they make all sorts of sounds, from deep croaks to weird knocking noises and bell-like calls. In the wild, ravens can live for about 10-15 years, though some have reached 40 years old when kept in captivity. They're quite common in the UK, especially in Wales and Scotland.
