Show poor people dignity

Ghastly Liz Kendall is going to give the DWP the power to spy on and take money from the bank accounts of benefit claimants as part of her new crackdown on benefit fraud.

“But in my experience, when I was a welfare rights officer, benefit fraud is only committed when people are desperate.

Kendall and company should be focused on eradicating the circumstances that cause the desperation. But she has no concept of what it's like to be poor and struggling to make ends meet.

So she just wants to treat poor people like they’re criminals when they have to claim benefits to survive.”

The majority of those people in poverty in our country are working households. We need to provide decent wages and opportunities for people to live and thrive, not merely survive.
