What is a Grasshopper Pie ?

Grasshopper pie is a cool, creamy dessert known for its light, minty flavor and green color. It’s named after the "Grasshopper" cocktail, which combines crème de menthe (a mint-flavored liqueur) and crème de cacao (a chocolate-flavored liqueur). The pie, however, is non-alcoholic but still uses crème de menthe for that signature minty flavor.

Here’s what typically goes into a grasshopper pie:

Oreo cookie crust: Made from crushed chocolate cookies and butter.
Marshmallow or whipped cream base: This gives the pie its fluffy, light texture.
Crème de menthe: For the mint flavor and the green color.
Crème de cacao (optional): For a subtle chocolatey undertone.
Whipped cream: Folded into the filling to add extra fluffiness.
Optional garnishes: Chocolate shavings, mint leaves, or additional whipped cream for presentation.
Steps:
Crust: The crushed Oreo crust is pressed into a pie pan and chilled.
Filling: The marshmallow base (melted marshmallows and milk) is mixed with crème de menthe and, optionally, crème de cacao, then cooled. Whipped cream is folded into the mixture.
Assembly: The filling is poured into the chilled crust and refrigerated until set, usually a few hours or overnight.
